About GEMS Wellington Al Khail

GWA Al Khail is an international school dedicated to fostering a passion for excellence in learning and in life. There is an expectation that all students aim to excel and make significant progress well beyond age-related expectations. GWA delivers programmes for learning that are rooted in the National Curriculum for England (NCfE) and enhanced by global best practice.

Implementation strategy

Being an international school, GEMS Wellington Al Khail has a large and varied cohort of learners, crossing a wide range of ages, backgrounds, ethnicities and learning abilities. As such, they have chosen to partner with Bedrock Learning to provide a single platform to be used across multiple curriculum areas to target and improve subject-specific vocabulary and literacy for all learners, further developing their personalised approach to teaching and learning.

"We've found, as a department, that Bedrock has been great to really embed core vocabulary. It has been well received by the team as well as by students because they can now make so many cross-curricular links with the vocabulary they are learning."

Rujina Madaser

Head of Social Sciences at GEMS Wellington Al Khail

Bedrock Learning was introduced to GEMS Wellington Al Khail by their Vice Principal, after she had used it extensively in her previous role in the UK. The team at the school have become passionate users of Bedrock, in particular the subject-specific vocabulary content within the Mapper module. Teachers are implementing Bedrock in the classroom, for homework, as well as for personalisation and intervention diagnostics.

Staff at the school have worked closely with Bedrock to ensure the rollout of the platform has been high impact and low effort. Students are now receiving personalised and quality interventions were needed, with more able students now having multiple pathways for more challenging activities and building cross-curricular connections.

"Partnering with Bedrock has been a really easy way for us to support the students in improving their subject-specific vocabulary... the work's all done for us."
