About GEMS Wellington Al Khail

GEMS is an international school dedicated to fostering a passion for excellence in learning and in life. There is an expectation that all students aim to excel and make significant progress well beyond age-related expectations. GWA delivers programmes for learning that are rooted in the National Curriculum for England (NCfE) and enhanced by global best practice.

Implementation strategy

Being an international school, GEMS Wellington Al Khail has a large and varied cohort of learners, crossing a wide range of ages, backgrounds, ethnicities and learning abilities. As such, they have chosen to partner with Bedrock Learning to provide a single platform to be used across multiple curriculum areas to target and improve subject-specific vocabulary and literacy for all learners, further developing their personalised approach to teaching and learning.

It's one platform for every single subject, which I thought was a very good idea. Bedrock makes it easy for teachers to share content. It hasn't at all needed the workload I expected to set up."

Stephanie Coyle

MFL Teacher at GEMS Wellington Al Khail

The team at GEMS Wellington Al Khail have become passionate users of Bedrock, in particular the subject-specific vocabulary content within the Mapper module. Teachers are implementing Bedrock in the classroom, for homework, as well as for personalisation and intervention diagnostics.

Subjects as diverse as history, geography, science and even Spanish have embedded Bedrock within their lessons; utilising and adding to the Bedrock content to fully align with their own curriculum needs. Vocabulary is organised by topic and shared between all teachers to ensure rollout has been high impact and low effort. The team at GEMS Wellington Al Khail have worked closely with Bedrock to ensure all curriculum requirements have been covered.

We've had buy-in from our humanities team, our maths team, obviously our English team, even the Science department is now involved. Everyone sees and understands the value of subject-specific vocabulary.
