Literacy Leaders Programme: Free CPD digital course
The Transforming Education Alliance is excited to launch a free digital CPD course, to support educators in becoming the literacy experts in their school and transform learner outcomes.
Language is the bedrock of learning, and only by implementing whole-school, evidence-based strategies and teaching can we drive improvement. This course, verified by CPD UK, enables you to become an expert in this space.
The course is completely free and takes 6 weeks to complete, with self-directed digital learning and online check-in sessions. To join, you need to become a member of the Transforming Education Alliance - a free community of forward-thinking educators, powered by Bedrock Learning.

The objectives of the course
This is an accredited CPD course for educators at schools to enhance their knowledge on literacy and support them in delivering effective literacy strategies. This course will transform outcomes by creating ‘champions’ who can implement best practice into their schools' curricula.
It's your chance to enhance your skills, build your CV and do something vital for your school community.
How it works
The 6-week course is taking place in the second half of the Spring term in England (spanning March and early April).
The course will begin with a live virtual welcome event which will outline the content, give you a chance to meet your tutors and answer any questions you have before you get started.
Over the following 6 weeks, participants will complete 11 pre-recorded core lessons (each approximately 30 minutes in duration), a pre-recorded Bedrock implementation session (approximately 45 minutes), and a Literacy Reflection Pack.
You must submit your Literacy Reflection Pack in week seven to pass the course, receive your Literacy Leader certificate and join us at the live virtual awards ceremony.
While there is a suggested course structure - recommending the completion of 2 lessons per week - you have flexibility to engage with the pre-recorded materials around your own schedule.
The course modules
The first running of the course follows this structure, and we're excited to be able to run it for free! It's your chance to be taught from the experts in the literacy space and connect with likeminded colleagues. Here's what you can expect:
- Monday 3rd March (4:00-4:45pm GMT): Virtual onboarding event
- 3rd March - 17th April: Self-guided learning (see below)
- Thursday 17th April: Submission of your Literacy Reflection Pack
